“James [Hakim] worked with us on pioneer research projects. And one was called DART, Development of Antiretroviral Therapy in Africa. We had to do this. The vast majority of people dying were in Africa. James was always with us to see if we could find effective treatment that could put a stop to the carnage of HIV AIDS in Africa. This is the James Hakim who we miss so much.”

The ARROW Study

Findings from ARROW Study African children who need HIV treatment are not getting it. Without antiretroviral therapy most of them will die within five years.

The ARROW trial looked at the same question as DART, but in children, following more than a thousand participants over five years. Children given treatment do very well.
