In Honor of Dr. James Gita Hakim
14 May 1954 – 25 January 2021
Dr. James Gita Hakim was a South Sudanese and Ugandan clinical epidemiologist, a gifted heart specialist, and a dedicated HIV AIDS researcher..James was a respected and humble leader. He was a colleague, mentor, and friend to many. Dr. James Gita Hakim died 25th of January 2021 in Zimbabwe because of complications due to COVID-19. He will be sorely missed.

Pediatrician & HIV AIDS Researcher, Author of “A Cure Too Far” and “Genocide by Denial” President of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences and Director of the JCRC Uganda (retired)
A researcher in Uganda during the HIV pandemic outbreak, he spent his career working on a disease that was killing so many people. Dr Peter Mugyeni is a world-renowned research leader who has authored two books, and he has stared in a major motion picture documentary.
Diana Gibb, MBBS, MSc
Pediatrician and Epidemiologist at MRC Clinical Trials Unit Zimbabwe
Over the last 30 years, she set up and coordinated a network of clinical trials and cohorts across Europe, Thailand, and South America mainly addressing questions in pediatric HIV infection. Since 1999 her focus has expanded to East Africa, and more recently to India, where she runs large trials addressing strategy questions in adult and pediatric HIV infection, as well as tuberculosis, malaria, hepatitis C and antimicrobial resistance.
Chuen-Yen Lau, MD, MS, MPH
Research Clinician HIV Dynamics and Replication Program National Cancer Institute, (NIH)
Chuen-Yen Lau is a clinical research physician at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). in 2004, she joined NIAID to support multifaceted international infectious disease research partnerships with a focus on Indonesia. She is now at the HIV Dynamics and Replication Program in the National Cancer Institute in 2020 to conduct translational research to identify, characterize and target HIV reservoirs

CART conducts multisite Therapeutics (ACTG), prevention (HPTN) and INSIGHT clinical trials. and directs the clinic which provides medical care for persons with HIV, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, COVID19 and other Infectious Diseases in Chennai, Southern India.
