John Bosco Asiimwe, Ph.D. – John Bosco Asiimwe has a Doctorate and Master’s in Statistics from Makerere University, Uganda. He has a Certificate in Impact Evaluation awarded by the University of Witwatersrand University of South Africa in conjunction with The World Bank and Clear and was a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, USA. Dr. Asiimwe is Principal Investigator (PI) on the impact evaluation study “Working with Village Health Teams to Increase ORS Use in Uganda: A Randomized Controlled Trial”. This study is funded by the University of California Berkeley (UCB) and Weiss Family Program Fund (Harvard University). He has worked as a research manager for the microfinance institution FINCA as an Empower consultant and was involved in training District Planners for strengthening monitoring capacities under the OPM.

He also worked as a Statistician on a vaccination coverage survey that was funded by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Ministry of Health Uganda. Dr. Asiimwe has been working as a monitoring and evaluation expert on the Uganda reproductive health voucher program funded by the World Bank. He recently worked with The World Bank to facilitate a workshop in Kigali Rwanda on Early Childhood Development Multi-Country Initiative.  He worked as a Statistician on the evaluation of a UN Joint Programme on Population in Uganda funded by UNFPA. John Bosco worked with QED as a Statistician on the evaluation of strengthening TB and HIV & AIDS Responses (STAR) Projects. John Bosco successfully worked as a Data Manager for the HIV/AIDS Model District Programme (AIM) a JSI/USAID supported the project from 2003 to 2006.

He has carried out a number of population-related studies and has published in a number of international peer-reviewed journals. The recent study was on contraceptive use among young and older women published in BMC public health journal. He is currently working as a Lecturer and Head of Department (Planning and Applied Statistics) at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. John Bosco has excellent skills in Data Management and analysis of survey data.  Including experience of over fifteen (15) years using software like SurveyCTO, CSPro, Epidata, EpiInfo, SPSS, Stata and MS Office applications.

He has worked with a number of USAID and The World Bank-funded projects in developing Monitoring and Evaluation frameworks. Dr. Asiimwe is a member of the Advisory Board for the Intergraded Demographic and Health Surveys. John is also a member of the Uganda Statistical Society and a member of Uganda Evaluation Association. He also sits on the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of Makerere University Social Science Research and Evaluation Committee.
