Uganda Cervical Cancer Education Program C.H.I.P.S.
The C.H.I.P.S. program using a participatory approach to Training of Trainers, which brings Cervical Cancer prevention messages to communities through Village Health Team Workers, Community Leaders, Facility Health Workers, and Parent-Teacher Organizations. Cervical cancer is caused by sexually acquired infection with certain types of HPV. There are two HPV types (16 and 18) that cause as much as 70% of cervical cancers and pre-cancerous cervical lesions. Evidence also links HPV with cancers of the anus, vulva, vagina, penis, and oropharynx.
Uganda Kyamuhunga sub-county VHTs perform a song they wrote about Cervical cancer awareness and HPV prevention through immunization.
